Hiatus

[Each Sunday I will take a little Sabbath from prose and offer up an original poem. My first poem is a slight editing of a poem I wrote in October, 2012 as I was about to end one interim position, and was seeking a new unknown interim position. I received a new position without a break January 1, 2013.]

"HIATUS"

As I come to a possible work ravine,

It is a time I have not heretofore seen,

God knows the challenges that have been,

I look to God to show me the next stream.

I hope it is not a dead end,

Perhaps it is a jog or a bend.

Maybe I just have to hang in here,

And a new start will soon appear.

Strange that it comes at such a good time,

For my wife, kids, and grandkids-- my fam.

Maybe it's time to realize how life is sublime,

To find the comfort of "peanut butter and jam."

I certainly promise to do my best,

To find value in any "break" or rest,

If it be when I'm sixty or even later,

To see it as a time for reflection and not a test.

If I take a little break,

I can plan for more ahead.

I'll try to find the value of life for its own sake,

And through reflection be fed.

Lord, be with me, guide me, help me to see,

That it's not just in work that life is to be,

Give me the trust and show me the way,

Show me that love each day is the key.
