"Generation to Generation"

[A poem modified from one written in retrospect of a week-long gathering of three generational families]
What do we learn this week
from each other, as we meet?
I think we get a peak
of generations, singular and in repeat.
A story, a game, and even a pout
The kids show us clearly what we are about.
Don't we often feel deep inside
That we have something we hide?
I love the laughter and mirth
That kids have from birth
Where does it go along the way?
Is it still there, but we hold it at bay?
Grandpas and grandmas purely enjoy,
The clasp of a child's hand, the friendly hello,
While generation two often enjoys a break,
When gen. one and gen. three each other's company take.
Why is it that we cannot remember the best of times
We had with our children two decades ago?
We know each day was just as eventful.
Maybe now we realize how bountiful.
Help us learn from all this Lord,
how all generations are really one.
Make us more mindful of the kids inside of us.
In our everyday lives, lead us to have more fun.
